We (heart) our teachers!

Tuesday, May 18, 2010
When I went to college, I was going to be a teacher. I signed up for the first education class and was all ready to go. The class was very involved. It required a lot of time and energy, and it was only worth one credit hour. Someone said it was so we could get used to being teachers, a lot of effort and not a lot of pay! I got about half-way through the semester and decided it was not for me! I withdrew from the class.

That experience taught me that it takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to our children for such minimal financial return. They teach because they love it, and they love the children. I respect them greatly, all the more because I know I am not one of those people! So in honor of Teacher Appreciation week I made these.

These are the gifts for the kids' teachers this year. I decorated the clipboards with paper and ribbon and then added some bags of school supplies/treats and added a card. They turned out really cute.

These are the fronts of the cards I made. I was trying to try some different flower techniques I had found online so they are a little busy (at least the purple one is) but I like how they turned out.

Finished

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

It didn't really take me this long to finish the frames, just this long to post it. I promised pics of the finished project and here they are. I really love how they turned out. I have always hesitated to make something with a specific color scheme for my room, I didn't want to be stuck with the colors if I changed my mind later, but these were so simple to make, even if we do change the colors, we can simply change the frames. They hang over the headboard of our bed. The next phase of this project is to cut some vinyl words to surround them. I'm thinking it will say "From here, to Eternity." (which are the words from "our song".) Or something equally cheesy but wonderful. ;)

What's black and white and red all over?

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Part one of my 2 part black/white/ with a little red table topper series. I love the scalloped edges on this one and even though it's a little complicated, and I bought instead of made my own bias tape to bind the edges (still not brave enough to attempt that yet) I will for sure make scalloped edge toppers again.
