Craft Room Tour

Tuesday, November 27, 2012
So, I had a moment on Saturday.  I bought a nice, big, cutting mat on a screaming deal from Joann's.  When I got it home and tried to put it on my craft table, I realized it was about a foot bigger than the table.  Luckily, my craft table is actually my Great-grandmother's dining table, and we had an extra leaf out in the garage.  Easy enough to fix, right?  WRONG.  When I put the leaf in, the table was now too close to where I originally had the sewing desk, this prompted an entire room rearrange and organize.  So, since it's as clean as it's ever been, I thought I ought to document it, for posterity. ;)  This is the view from the door.
Here is my fabric area.  I started collecting the front and back panels of Capri-sun boxes to use as mini bolts for my fabrics- and then they changed their packaging!  So this is it for now, until I can purchase some new ones, or get ambitious enough to cut other cardboard down to the same size. :)  This is why the majority of my stash is in the cabinet and on the book shelf.  Harder to keep neat, but it works for now.
My GINORMOUS cutting mat.  I LOVE it!  This is also where my paper crafting supplies are located.
This is my sewing desk.  Eventually there will be a t.v. above it, and I'll fill in the wall with other art.  This is my start.  The desk is reclaimed from a house my Dad was renovating.  The house was actually said to be haunted, but so far, they've stayed out of the desk. ;)
To the left of the last picture you could catch a glimpse of my dirty little secret- the closet.  This is where the rest of my "craft junk" (as it's referred to by the 6 year old) lives.  I don't know how people have every.single.piece of crafting equipment they own neatly and beautifully stored.  This is where the ugly lives people. The unruly knit fabric that won't stay neatly folded, the naked pillow forms and all the other bits and pieces I don't always use, but like to have on hand for those Just In Case moments.  It's a problem, I realize that.  It is getting better, and I hope my desire to have a lovely creative space will motivate me to use up a lot of this stuff so I don't have to store it anymore.  That's logical, right?

I love my little craft space.  If you have any questions about what you see- feel free to ask!  There's lots more coming up this week!  So try not to be too shocked when you see me blog *gasp* multiple times in one week. ;)

Thanks for stopping by.

Christmas Prep- a Mom-day post

Monday, November 26, 2012
It's that time of year again.  The Holidays.
With a capital H.

Are you ready?  Are you set?
 All done shopping?
Meals planned and shopped for?
  Decorations carefully placed?
You are?

I was hoping I wasn't the only one who is woefully behind.
Actually, it's not really the fact that I have only purchased one gift so far.  It's more the fact that I am struggling with the why.  Why do we put ourselves through this?  What message are we trying to share?

Surely, the babe who was content in a manger wouldn't expect elaborate decorations, extravagant gifts, and elegant meals in order to celebrate Him.  Surely there is a bigger picture in all of this that I am missing somehow.

I am searching for that meaning.  I'm hoping that it's not that my heart is 2 sizes too small, but that I want it to matter.  I want our celebrations to bring us closer.  Closer as a family, closer as neighbors, closer as brothers and sisters.  Closer to each other and closer to our Savior.

I read in a religious manual created for families 39 years ago, that it might take courage to make changes to our celebration plans in order to allow us to focus on that which is most important.  And I agree.  I am searching for that courage.  Can I make these changes?  Do I dare?

We shall see.

Happy Monday.

Monday is Mom-day

Sunday, November 18, 2012
Yes, we start them young in our house. :)
So, here we are, back to blogging. :)  I have been feeling the pull, the desire to create and share and inspire and be inspired.  So here I am.  I can't promise that I'll be an amazing blogger any time soon.  Right now I am in the throes of sewing bunches and oodles of wallets.
I am loving them.  They are lovely and selling faster than I can make them. :)  It's a wonderful problem to have, especially heading into the holiday season when the extra cash is helpful for all the expenses that come with this time of year.
Mass production leaves little time for creative projects, but I have the feeling that I will need the break from the wallets every once in a while, so hopefully there will be some fun stuff coming.
We are getting back into the swing of things, but as with everything sometimes you swing one direction and sometimes you swing back the other.  Balance is a funny thing.  So, here's to hoping we don't go too far one direction or the other and we find a nice happy place here. lol
Today, I want to leave you with a question.  I'm sure I've asked it before, but I am sincerely wondering how you keep Christmas celebrations from being all about the gifts.  Even if they only get one gift, my kids want items that cost from $100-$200 dollars.  I really don't think it's what the holiday is all about, but I also don't want to disappoint my children.  I want our celebration to be meaningful, purposeful as well as fun.  What have you done to add some meaning and depth to your own celebrations?  I'm really looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Until next time.

Introducing the Chest-R-Desk {a sponsored post}

Wednesday, November 7, 2012
I am so excited to be able to share with you a new product I have recently been introduced to.  Everyone, meet the Chest R Desk:
Doesn't it look awesome?  What an innovative idea- a chest for storage, a chair for reading and a desk for writing! If you want to see it in action, you can check out this video here: www.chestrdesk.com .
And for the price, (less than $60) I think it's a great bargain.  Especially for my kids' smallish bedrooms, this one piece of furniture serves so many purposes!
The wheels are already turning about how you could customize this to fit the decor in your child's room, plus all the organizational magic you could work in that great storage space.
Don't you think this would make a great gift for Christmas?  I have a nearly 4 year old who would love to have this in her room, full of coloring supplies and all the stickers she could want.  Santa, are you reading this? ;)
If you think someone in your life would love this too- you can purchase them online at www.chestrdesk.com.  If you want to follow all the happenings with this great product, you can like their facebook page
Fingers crossed this will find it's way under our tree this year. :)

Happy Shopping!
*I was compensated for writing this post.  However, the opinions in this post are all mine- I really do think this is a fantastic idea/product.*
